THE LETTER NO ONE WANTS TO GET

My Grand Mother received that telegram on July 14th.1943. My uncle's ship was torpedoed by a German sub off the coast of South Africa. I never got to know the man himself but my Grand Mother kept all his letters he wrote her while he was in the Navy. I kind of got to know him by reading his letters. I have them now and still go back and read them every now and then, wondering what impact that man would of  had in my life had he lived.

The last letter any of my family received from him.

In all his letters he never spoke about any action they were seeing, he just talked about everyday stuff.

I have his Purple Heart that I take out at times and tell the man I never knew, how much I miss him.

Then I take out his obituary and look at the man I never saw alive

and look at the picture of his girl friend at the time and wonder, could this lady have been the mother of some more cousins of mine ?

Memorial Day has a very special place in my heart for all of those who lost their lives fighting in a war so I can set here now typing on this blog. God bless all of you and you will never be forgotten and you are missed more than you could ever imagined I love everyone of you and may god bless all of you.

Now if you will excuse me I need to go blow my nose and wash my face.
